How To...

Which item types can Sisulizer save to exported file?

If you work with Sisulizer you already know that each translation item is visible in Sisulizer’s Translation Sheet as row with original string value and (potential) translation(s). But to rows are assigned other additional values, for example context, translation status, row status etc. Implementation of Sisulizer’s export feature is really advanced and if you want you can include these additional row values to exported strings also. Just select these additional export items in Export Wizard. Below is a screenshot from Export Wizard for XLIFF format with here described options indicated by red rectangle.

For each export format it looks a bit different and not all options are available for each format. E.g. TMX are available for Text or Excel file format. It arise from compatibility reasons, because contents of exported file should be matched with specification of export format. Retaining of compatibility with standards allows you to open your exported file in third party tools with support of selected format. Below is short table, where you can compare exported item types available for all export format.

Item type TMX XLIFF Text Excel
Translation status YES YES NO NO
Invalidated YES YES NO NO
Row comment YES YES YES YES
Translation comment YES YES YES YES
Row status YES YES NO NO
Do not translate status YES YES NO NO
Max chars value YES YES NO NO
Max pixels value YES YES NO NO

As I mentioned above, you can open and edit exported file .e.g. TMX file in external localization or CAT tool, but usually third party tools don’t support these advanced items. So in most cases you can edit strings in your other localization software, but other values, for example context or translation status are unavailable. In this case, you don’t need to check these additional option in Sisulizer’s Export Wizard, because it only increases size of exported file. However, if you want to import exported file to other Sisulizer project, selecting these option could be very useful, because it allows you to import to other project all values connected with imported rows.
